How to renew your Canadian passport
Renew your passport – adults in Canada
You must be a Canadian citizen and
16 years of age and over.
Before you apply, make sure you meet the following eligibility requirements,
>> you must be at least 16 years of age at the time of your previous application;
>> the information (name, date of birth, sex and place of birth) on this application form is exactly as it appears on page 2 of the submitted passport 1 ;
>> you submit a previous Canadian passport that: is valid or expired for no more than one (1) year 2 ; was/is valid for five (5) years or ten (10) years 3 ;
>> passport must not be damaged; and
>> your passport was never reported lost or stolen.
Know your travel date…
It’s important to know your travel date. If you are not travelling in the next month or so, you can submit your application by mail or visit one of the Passport offices, Service Canada or Canada Post receiving agent locations. If you need your passport within the next 20 days, you need to apply in person at one of the Passport office locations. Many locations also offer pick-up, express and urgent service for an extra fee.
If you already have a passport, it will be cancelled and must be submitted with your application. A cancelled passport cannot be used for travel.

Does your passport have a valid visa in it?
If you submit a passport for renewal that has a valid visa, tell us on the application form that you want the original passport returned to you and that you still need that visa. If you don’t, the visa could be damaged when the previous passport is cancelled.
Remember the following steps when applying for your passport renewal,
* Gather all necessary documents and get your passport photo
* Find two references
* Submit your application and pay your fees
* After about 20 working days you receive your passport
